The 2021 Deloitte Access Economic report shows the great value of national public broadcasting to the Australian economy.
Over a three-year period (2017-2020 ) the ABC commissioned 433 screen productions at a value of $744 million and supported 8300 full-time employment jobs.
This report completely debunks those right-wing critics who continually deny the benefits of public broadcasting.
The Deloiitte Report shows the ABC’s central role in supporting Australian economic activity, jobs, and cultural activity at the same time as it provides essential services, entertainment, and education.
Furthermore, the Report finds that ABC programs delivers social and cultural benefits for all Australians by contributing to national identity, social inclusion and developing creative talent.
The ABC’s success was again recognised this week at the 10th Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards when programs including The News Reader, Fires, Total Control, and children’s favourite Bluey received special recognition.
Clearly the ABC is providing both national economic and cultural benefits so the Coalition Government should immediately guarantee increased triennial funding in a five-year cycle.
