Since 1980, SBS has complemented the ABC in its role as the second largest public broadcaster in Australia. However, in 1987 the decision was made to include advertising on SBS. This advertising was initially restricted to natural program breaks (between programs). Unfortunately, in 2006 SBS management decided to place advertising within programs (in-program, non-natural program breaks).
