Millar has been on News Breakfast for the past five years.
Joining the ABC in 1993, she is one of the ABC’s longest-serving foreign correspondents, serving as US and Europe bureau chief and covering such major stories as US presidential elections, the Boston bombing, Hurricane Sandy and the Paris terrorist attacks.
ABC Chief Content Officer, Chris Oliver-Taylor, said he was delighted that Millar would be moving into the Content team full-time, where she will continue to work on Muster Dogs and Back Roads and be involved in developing future programs.
Millar will also present Muster Dogs: Where are they now? later this year.
Describing Millar as an “ABC legend”, Oliver-Taylor said ABC audiences have always “connected with her warmth and sincerity”.
Director, ABC News, Justin Stevens, said Millar was a “superb journalist and broadcaster who personifies the very best values and attributes of ABC journalists. We value her immensely.”
Announcing her departure, Millar said she had never worked on anything so “exciting, unpredictable, and fun” as News Breakfast.
“I’m excited to hit the road and discover more of the incredible stories that make up the remarkable tapestry of our culture. There are so many adventures ahead, whether it be with Back Roads, Muster Dogs, or new projects we’re cooking up. What a privilege it is to be a part of that future.”
