All ABC Friends members are saddened today to hear of Tim Fischer’s death and send condolences to his family.

Tim Fischer was a rare politician. He supported issues he thought were important to all Australians and particularly represented the interests of the rural community.

He volunteered to be an ABC ‘Defender’ because he recognised the importance of ABC television and radio in giving voice to the concerns of people around the country and especially those in Regional Australia.

He was a frank and fearless leader who connected with so many Australians because he believed in a "fair go for everyone."
