Join us for the ABC Friends WA Annual Dinner 2023.
As advised before, by email and at our AGM, we are holding our Annual Dinner at The Herdsman on Monday 4 December at 6pm.
We have two speakers for the night, who are going to interview each other! Sarah Knight and Michael Tetlow are both experienced journalists and both currently at ABC Perth.
Sarah started at the ABC in 1988 as a Rural trainee in Geraldton, learning the ins and outs of journalism and radio craft using reel-to-reel tape recorders. She then became South West Rural Reporter, sharing an office with the legendary Bill McCutcheon. In 1991 she moved for a time to Sydney, working on the national Country Hour with David Gee, and then back to Perth where she presented the Statewide Morning File and then a morning program for the Great Southern.
There followed a Regional Afternoon Program, a segment called the Bush Telegraph, acting as back-up on the weather, two babies, and some production and reporting. She then proposed to the manager of the time that she start our station website, which happened in 2000. She introduced garden expert Sabrina Hahn to the Perth audience and learned HTML and started putting ABC Perth audio online.
Sarah presented Saturday Breakfast in Perth, became program director in 2006, and later switched to management. She has managed ABC Radio Perth for the last few years and is now in a national audio planning role.
Michael Tetlow is currently presenting ABC Radio Perth’s Afternoons program and has been quoted as saying ‘I love a good chat’!
He has more than 25 years’ experience as a reporter, presenter and producer in Australia and the UK. He began his career as a reporter with GWN in Bunbury, then moved to Channel 10 in Perth, then to Channel 9, before making the leap to international news as a freelance producer and presenter in London in 2004. During four years in the UK he worked for the BBC, ITN and Reuters.
Michael has been seen across Australia on the main ABC channel, the ABC News channel and throughout 42 countries in the Asia Pacific on ABC Australia.
