Visitors to Adelaide Writers Week in March will be seeing lots of ABC Friends!

If you’re travelling to Adelaide next month for Writers Week, make sure you keep an eye out for other ABC friends.

Adelaide Writers Week

ABC Friends SA/NT and Victoria have joined forces to have a presence throughout the Week – which runs from 2-7 March - including producing bookmarks to hand out to booklovers.

Look out for the ABC Friends banners as you walk around the Pioneer Women’s Memorial Garden.

ABC Friends is also partnering with organisers to present a discussion on the future of news. To be held from 5pm, Sunday 3 March on the East Stage, this session will include Laura Tingle, Lenore Taylor, ABC news director, Justin Stevens, and long-time British journalist, Alan Rusbridger.

The discussion will look at the BBC’s recently created Verify team of 60 specialist journalists who are using the latest technology to fact-check, verify video, counter disinformation and analyse data and then present this information to news audiences.

ABC Friends SA/NT Patron, long-time evening radio presenter, Peter Goers, will discuss his new memoir on Tuesday 5 March.

Adelaide Writers Week is a major event on both South Australian and literary calendars, attracting thousands of visitors from overseas and interstate. It is held in conjunction with the Adelaide Festival.

SA Premier, Peter Malinauskas, said that “Sixty-four years after it was first established, Adelaide Writers Week continues to celebrate the undeniable power of the written word, of fearless ideas and thoughtful conversation”.

ABC Friends SA/NT President Daryl Regan said that ABC Friends is very grateful to AWW Director, Louise Adler, for the opportunity to participate and has encouraged ABC members and supporters to wear ABC Friends merchandise while at the event.

“ABC Friends wishes all our members, supporters and their friends a very enjoyable time at this world class event,” he said.
