As pre-polling begins in the by-election for the Victorian seat of Dunkley, ABC Friends Victoria will be there to remind voters that we need a strong, properly-funded ABC.

Peta Murphy was a great local member for Dunkley, and a really fine person. She was also an avid supporter of the ABC. ABC Friends is honouring her memory by making the ABC front and centre in the campaign for the seat.

It is a marginal seat and both major parties will campaign heavily. The campaign and the results will be heavily scrutinised.

This is where ABC Friends Victoria comes in. We have a strong local group in the area, the Southern Bayside Group, and they are campaigning to make strengthening the ABC a campaign issue. As in the May 2022 federal election, we will be urging voters to vote for candidates who undertake to support and advocate for the ABC.

The ABC is trusted and valued, but it’s still underfunded. Now more than ever we need a strong ABC - democracy depends on it.

The by-election will be held on Saturday 2 March.
