ABC Friends Tasmania October update

ABC Friends Tasmania October update

ABC Friends Tasmania is inviting supporters to join its Management Committee ahead of a big year in 2024. A key focus will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Australian independent journalism when Andrew Bent defied Governor Arthur’s censorship regime to publish the Hobart Town Gazette and Van Diemen’s Land Advertiser.

The group is also seeking input from Tasmanians about what the ABC is doing well and where it can improve. If you are interested in joining the Committee or getting involved in other ways, please email [email protected]

Friends and supporters are invited to attend the AGM on 5 November, with Andrew Wilkie, Member for Clark and Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Friends of the ABC, as keynote speaker. Andrew will speak on the importance of media freedom. The meeting will be held from 1.30 – 3.30pm at the UTas Media School, Level 1, 2 Salamanca Square, Hobart.

Meanwhile, ABC Friends Tasmania members in Launceston are being given an exclusive opportunity at 6pm on 18 October to attend a dress rehearsal of the forthcoming production of The Boy from Oz, after hearing from Director, Belinda King. Please email [email protected] by Monday 14 October to RSVP and gain further details.
