This edition comes at a time of change for Update and for our communications with the members of ABC Friends.

Mal Hewitt OAM is stepping down after 17 years as editor of Update and 20 years of membership on the NSW & ACT Committee. Thank you, Mal, for your extraordinary service to ABC Friends. Thank you, too, to Diana Wyndham, who is stepping down as Assistant Editor.

Update has been the essential communications tool for ABC Friends over many years and the work involved in producing it three times a year has been significant. We deeply appreciate the work that Mal, Diana and many other members of the Update production team have done – all voluntarily – to keep us all informed.

These editorial changes have prompted ABC Friends to review its national and state communications. Nationally, we will continue to produce a monthly online newsletter, along with other online communications to our members and supporters. Other changes are also planned as part of a new national communications strategy.

The NSW & ACT committee has assumed responsibility for producing two editions of Update in 2024 as a NSW & ACT newsletter, alongside a new annual magazine from ABC Friends national.

Thus, members in NSW & the ACT will continue to receive three hard copy magazines in 2024. But we’d like to better understand how you would like to receive communications from ABC Friends so in early 2024 we’ll seek your responses to a membership survey. We hope you will participate in the survey to help guide our communications in 2024 and beyond.
