ABC Funding and the Election - A Conversation Piece

The following article has recently been published in The ConversationNo-one is talking about ABC funding in this election campaign. Here’s why they should be.  The funding history of the ABC is discussed, including the critical conclusion that ABC funding in 2025–26 will be at its lowest level in real terms in 45 years, unless a government is elected in May who is willing to reverse this continuing financial demise of our national public broadcaster.  The current government appears intent on gradually starving the ABC.

It is worth noting that complaints about the ABC often relate to reduced quality and insufficient reporting on issues as they arise.  Note that this is in a context where the ABC is providing more services than ever before plus experiencing ongoing reductions in funding which have resulted in significant reductions in staff.  Does our national public broadcaster have to face a future of doing more with less?
