As public broadcasters, the independence of the ABC and SBS is critical; that is, independence from political and commercial interests.  In order to ensure this independence into the future, the Federal Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland, has initiated a review of funding and governance, and is inviting submissions for this review by 31 August.  The Northern Tablelands branch of the ABC Friends is intending to make a submission.
